Matthew Johnson is a professional Magician that lives & performs right here in Vancouver, BC with his wife & two beautiful daughters (he lives in North Vancouver actually).

Matthew moved to Vancouver 12 years ago after finishing a 2 year contract aboard a P&O European Cruise Line & an extended 2 year contract at the Hilton Hotel in Nagoya, Japan. It’s Thursday the 12th of November & I just flew back to Vancouver from Las Vegas where I was staying & performing at the Palace Station Hotel & Casino!

This represented my first performance in Vegas & my first trip to Vegas so it was a great thrill & I am sure I will be heading back that way very soon.

So what’s next for this travelling magician from Vancouver you are asking yourself?

Well, I am gearing up for my busiest Christmas season ever so that takes care of December then I will be getting ready for my trip to Sweden in March so it’s all go here at MagicShow2Go.

Hi All,

It has been a while since my last blog & you may be wondering what I have been up to? Well I have been on tour in the UK teaching my unique brand of magic to magicians. The lecture tour lasted for 14 days with 10 stops in different cities all over the UK (& the Isle of Man). As you can tell from the lovely picture of yours truly I had plenty of time to stop & take some pretty entertaining & cheesy pictures along the way :o) This rather remarkable picture of me was taken at The House of Magic in Stourbridge.

Teaching magic to magicians all over the world is great fun & a real passion of mine. I started as a magician back when I was just 7 years old (so long ago). Since my early magic wand wielding days I have had the chance to visit many countries and literally perform for all kinds of audiences, something I would probably never have done if it were not for magic. Did I mention I just love being a magician? Anyways that is why I love teaching magicians now, it’s like I have come full circle & am now able to give something back to the art that I love so much.

So what next I hear you ask?

Well, that’s a very good question. I am back in Vancouver where I am accepting bookings until the 7th of November & then it’s back on another plane & off to Las Vegas to attend Mindvention, the worlds largest meeting of mind readers. It will be my first time at Mindvention & I am looking forward to performing my signature YMCA mind reading act which will be very different for the Mentalist crowd. After leaving Vegas it’s off to Tofino for 4 days. I don’t know it’s all go go go!!! Rest assured, I will be back in Vancouver on the 16th of November & geering up for the busy Christmas Entertainment season.

Fear not! While I am away MagicShow2Go will still be open for business! My wife Sue is always here to take your Special Event bookings & answer your questions. This week has been a great thrill & one of the most exciting in a long time!

Imagine this scenario. I am on my way to a gig & I get a call asking me if I can perform magic at a private event for a cocktail reception, a little bit of strolling magic as the guests arrive. The difference with this event is that the small guest list consists of the players for the Vancouver Canucks, their wives, coaches & other special guests. What a thrill this was. The entire Aquilini family made me feel very welcome & the Canucks were a GREAT bunch of guys who just happened to LOVE magic…..who knew!

I do have to confess to not watching much hockey as it happens. Being an English fella who moved to Vancouver 11 years ago it is not a game that I ever really followed. However I do like the opportunity to cheer the home team on in the playoffs & always find the chance to do so very exciting!

Probably the most excited person I know was my youngest daughter Sophia who is 9. Imagine the look on her face the next morning when I gave her a water bottle signed by Roberto Luongo. She was the proudest child in her class that morning….ahh what a great feeling that was as a father.

So, I will be jetting off to the UK on Friday on a 2 week, 10 date tour, I will return on Sunday the 18th of October. Do not fear! While I am away the offices of MagicShow2Go will still be open. My wife Sue will be taking my calls & booking in shows for the rest of October, November & the busy Christmas season. It’s been a while since I blogged, as always I have been extremely busy over the past few months. So what have I been up to?

Well first of all in the month of August I traveled down to the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, California to lecture. It was a real thrill to be invited to lecture at the Magic Castle & very much a childhood dream come true. After the lecture I got to spend the rest of the day (& night) hanging out at the Castle, making many new friends along the way. This was not the only lecture stop, on the way I got to lecture in San Francisco, Tacoma & Fresno too! In Fresno I got to lecture at Hocus-Pocus, the worlds largest online Magic Store. What a great time & a trip I will never forget.

I am back in Vancouver now entertaining at events for the rest of September. In October I will be jetting off to England for a 2 week, 10 date lecture tour. This will be a great opportunity to visit many cities I have never seen & make many more new friends. You know having the chance to travel & teach my own unique brand of Magic to Magicians & Magic Clubs all over the world is truly a fantastic thing!

For those looking to book me for a special event, I will be returning to Vancouver on October the 18th & will be accepting entertainment bookings until the 7th of November. On the 7th of November it is off to Las Vegas for 5 days to demo a new product at Mindvention, the worlds largest meeting of Mind Readers & Mentalists. After that it’s back to Vancouver for the rest of November & the busy Christmas Entertainment season.

This weekend was great fun!

On Saturday I got to spend 3 hours at a great Toy Shop in Steveston by the name of Splash Toys. Beth & all of the staff at Splash Toys invited me to entertain their pint sized customers with comedy & balloon twisting. As I stood in the entrance to the store I got to take in a little bit of Steveston. It occurred to me what a beautiful little fishing village this is. It reminded me of seaside towns in England a little bit, boy did I start to feel homesick!

On Sunday I was thrilled to be back performing at the North Shore Auto Mall family fun day event!

This was my second year with the North Shore Auto Mall & a great day was had by all! Although the day started with a little rain our spirits were not dampened. It was nice to see so many people braving the rain & by about 2pm the sky cleared up & we were able to enjoy fun in the sun. I got to meet many friends (old & new) & had a great turn out for my magic show. The show tent was in a different spot this year & was located right at the entrance to the Auto Mall.

This week was another great week to be an entertainer in the lower mainland. I was happy to be invited for the second year in a row to perform for the Longshoremen (502) & their guests. I did 1 hour of strolling magic & a 45 minute after dinner show & had a great time. I would personally like to thank everyone for inviting me back on such a fun evening!

……”One of the largest crowds we have ever had!”. This is just one of the great comments I heard this year from a Festival Organizer!

Matthew Johnson here, Vancouver’s favorite Entertainer & Magician (OK, I may be a little bias but I am pretty good!) The month of July is shaping up to be a HOT one in more ways than one.

First of all it really is HOT! Trust me, when you are an entertainer and you dress like I do (what was I thinking?) & perform outdoors you get HOT & go through a years supply of mineral water. You know come to think of it may be I should get corporate sponsorship from Aquafina or something. Anyways I digress!

We are only mid way through July & this is shaping up to be another great month (that’s right folks…we’ve got a HOT one!)

The start of July saw me at Whistler for the third year in a row performing at the Whistler Children’s Festival. This really is a great event & Traci & her crew always make both myself & my lovely wife feel very welcome. Every year we get to combine great Main stage shows with some roving Balloon Twisting & a couple of street performances thrown in. If you would like to see me perform come on up to Whistler on the 1st & 2nd of August as I will be back there with Traci & her crew as part of the Whistler Street Entertainment series.

July also saw me performing for Canada Post at their annual summer picnic. This was my first year with Canada Post as a client but we all had a great time so no doubt I will be seeing them again (wink, wink if you are reading this Canada Post!)

I also got invited to perform at Burnaby Discover Days for the third time. Maria (pictured) & her staff made me feel very welcome and even gave me my own chaperon buy the name of Moiya to help with crowd control. Moiya, you were awsome! Thank you very much.

I am not through yet folks! Still many more private events to attend this month so I am busy, busy, busy!

The past month or more has been very busy for me and so I have not had time to blog in a while. If you are visiting MagicShow2Go for the first time….welcome! If you are a regular visitor to MagicShow2Go & my blog……welcome back!

OK, so back to yours truly! You may be wondering what I have been up to since my last post on May 19th. Lets just say I have been……BUSY!

First of all, the end of May & start of June was Dry Grad season again. After many years of turning entertainment for dry grads down I finally started performing at them about 3 years ago & have been enjoying it ever since. To be honest the idea of being a performer for dry grads from midnight to 4 in the morning did not hold much appeal for me at first. May be it was the early hours or may be the high energy, I don’t know? Lets just say I am now a Dry Grad fan! Nobody reacts like a teenager that has been fooled by magic! I mean they run and scream, it’s great! Kind of like being David Blaine or Criss Angel for the evening. Many of my Dry Grads this year booked me for next year on the spot. So if you are hosting a Dry Grad in 2010 now is the time to call & get your booking in early.

As the Dry Grads slowed down the summer festivals began. I am pleased to say that I have been doing many lower mainland festivals for 4 or 5 years in a row now and I always have great fun. I was back at Lynn Valley Days, Mothers Day in Lions Park, Upper Lynn Days & The North Shore Seniors Picnic this year. I am very happy to have worked with DBIA on their Salmon Berry Days Festival this year and will be working with them later in September for their Dunbar Fall Festival. My work with DBIA just started this year and I would like to thank everyone involved for choosing me to perform at both of their annual festivals this year. I also have another new client this year in the Pacific Salmon Foundation who have booked me to appear at their festival in Vanier Park on Sunday the 30th of August. Finally on the festival note I will be back performing with the Whistler crew for the Whistler Children’s Festival from Friday the 10th of July to Sunday the 12th of July. This marks my third year at the festival. You can catch me on the main stage on Sunday the 12th from 12:30pm to 1:15pm and around the village on Friday & Saturday. If that is not enough you can catch me at the North Shore Auto mall family fun day on Sunday the 9th of August. This marks my second year with the auto mall & I would like to say thank you to everyone involved & for having me back.

This month also marked a new venture for me as I was booked to appear at Lafflines Comedy Club in New Westminster. As many of you know I mix comedy into my magic & juggling but I have been trying out a new set with more comedy than magic for the comedy clubs. My first official paid booking as a comedian was at Lafflines this past weekend. I was more than happy to share the bill with fellow comedians Ivan Decker, Mike Thomas & headliner Chris Molineux (all very funny comics). Barry Buckland (the owner of Lafflines) & his staff made me feel very welcome on both Friday & Saturday night & I would like to extend them a huge thank you. Watch this space as I plan on doing more of the comedy club circuit. Who knows, I may actually be good at it!

So that’s what I have been up to, oh and a few private corporate events, family events, preschools, end of school events, a wedding on a boat and so on and so on. Busy, busy! In the middle of all the madness I even found time to visit Disneyland for 5 days with my family….now that was cool!
